11:57 am - my bitch car no longer...
|
does it seem somewhat ironical that my brother crashed his car in a 5 car pile-up while on his way to look for a new car.
well he is getting a new car, which was supposed to mean that i get the shitty 323 bitchmobile, but due to it being quite possibly written off, that looks uncertain.
it seems my dreams of driving good old mollie have been shattered. the car doesnt look that bad cosmetically, but there was a bit of engine damage as i understand.
oh well shit happens.
ooooh, its winter now... werd.
and explosion are playing an all ages at the annandale august 14. and millencolin are playing at the big top (i think thats at luna park) september 22.

10:23 am - atreyu + unearth + norma jean + in name and blood
|
well, i dont think ther has been a show of quite such behemoth proportions, well in my experience, ever.
INAB were really good, especially in a decent venue, but they just didnt have the crowd.
NORMA FUCKING JEAN. well no offense to the proceeding bands, but the upstaged the lot of the motherfuckers. such intensity. and they replicated everything so well. the type of recorded antics, you wouldnt expect to be able to get live, but they did.
UNEARTH. wasnt too amped up for this as i didnt really know them, but they definately put on an awesome show. the guitarist i think (maybe the bassist) had cut a chunk out of his pants so you could see his balls. werd...!
ATREYU. it was good because it was atreyu, but the live show needs working on. they all came out dressed in white. the guitarist really looked bored. "hey im in one of the biggest hardcore bands in the world, but who gives a shit, i'll look like im at year 3 choir practise" and he had an annoying bow tie. got kicked out 3 songs before the end of their set for climbing up the pillar to do a rad dive, but security didnt like that. i missed their cover of bon jovi which, to be honest i wasnt too dissappointed about. and burt from the used came on for a song, also which i didnt care much for.
overall had a fucking sweeet time. good times spent in the pit bustin some moves... haha.
it was too brutal for me that at 8am on thursday morning in sydney central yha that the fire alarm went off and we were forced to evacuate the building to be told it was a false alarm. bastards. there was no chance of sleeping after that.
shopping in newtown the next day was sweet. spent a bit of money, but its all good. got a rad comeback kid shirt. and some cd's. but ross you were right, the carpathian cd was about the worst $10 i have spent in a while.
well next up, bleeding through. oooh, and throwdown in like one fucking week. fuck australia is getting shows like there is no tomorrow. i'll salute to that.

walking around the botanical gardens taking photos is very tiring i have recently found (ie. this morning)
then deciding it would be a short cut through the ANU to get to civic, is also very tiring. especially when you reallise the magnitude of that place. and they really have fuck all directions. then i ended up at rydges lakeside, then had to walk all the way around the anu anyway.
but my ipod kept me happy.
i felt so wanky walking around civic with a SLR strapped over my shoulder.
party last night was coolies, but seriously made crap by me taking the long way through yarralumla when skating from civic. alexandra drive = the devil the skate back to civic was much more pleasant and arrived in time for the october boys. good times. but was too buggered.
i might now continue my crusade and do something else very time consuming. yay.
werd.

so the return of the school term.
quite an uneventful break as far as im concerned, except for my melbourne shenanigans over the recent long weekend.
i got into melbourne on friday night to see the leatherface + blueline medic + a death in the family + forza liandry show. ok bands, it was good to see BM, and it was even better because i didnt know they were playing. leatherface = dirty pub punk rock n roll. good times.
is it a worry when you walk past your own brother because you didnt recognise him. well that was the case at the gig.
it was a shame to miss the taking sides show, but however sunday made up for it.
started off with behind crimson eyes. nothing special, but ok. a lot of 15 year old girls wearing their shirts. they really sell a shit load of merch. but they should really hurry up and release an album called "WE WANT TO BE THE USED". it would be most fitting.
up next, FUCKING PROM QUEEN. boo yah. undoubtedly the best i have ever seen them, and a fucking rollicking good time. apparently they are recording their new album in sweden in the latter part of the year? why sweden i dont know. good moshing times, but came out with quite a few trophy bruises, one on my lip which is quite ugly.
then next was from autumn to ashes. fuck. such a good band live. probably the best show this year, well maybe next to terror and rise against.
*condolences ross*
it was weird, there was suck an eery silence in the venue (corner hotel) between songs. it was like someone had hit the mute button. they played pretty much song for song between the two albums and two newies. july should see the new cd.
CHRISSY i have one kevin prom queen photo for you. ROSS i have one fata photo for you. i just have to post them some time.
got a shit load of music off my brother onto my ipod too. slowly, she is filling up. good weekend all up.
and i ask you what may you be doing on june 18? well i happen to be seeing bleeding through. care to join me?

porkus my fat little ipod, you are gold.
and despite everything, i still love you.

so fuck. after all that effort ot get my new id, its fucking useless.
i got to the anu bar for the strike anywhere show and the bouncer wouldnt accept it. i kept telling him to get the bar manager so i could talk to him, but he wouldnt. out of chance he comes out and says it should be ok for me to go in, but the bouncer overrides it. so i am forced to sell my ticket to some random dude.
fuck.
so by this stage sommerset are almost finished and im watching from the door. during the break between sommerset and useless id, i walk around the whole building trying to suss out a sneaky back way, but no luck.
its about half way into useless id and morgan comes out and says to give the door another shot. but ive already sold my ticket, and dont really want to waste $35 if i cant get in.
its seriously looking as if i will be watching strie anywhere from the door, which, you really cant see in anyway, only i tiny bit on the very left hand side of the stage.
so i walk right behind morgan, and bouncer is talking to these 4 dudes and wasnt really watching.
i just walked straight in behind him.
talk about fucking sneaky.
i went staright to the front and saw about the last 15 minutes of useless id. not a bad band for what they do, but not really my thing. but werd up to being from israel. fuck yeah.
so strike anywhere come on and it was fucking bliss. cant remember the set list, but they finished with 'to the world' and i couldnt think of a better song to top it off. i was taking photos but the dude just wouldnt stay still long enough to get any good ones.
so strung out come on, and even though im not a huge fan, its still strung out and they have been around for as long as i can remember. their set was good, but they have too much screaming these days. good ol' strung out is where its at, but their new stuff isnt as good. good set, but i started feeling it after a while. mayeb just a little too long.
but a fucking awesome night, and i didnt have to pay to get in. i feel bad about jibbing the bands, and seeing as though strike anywhere were the only band i actually wanted to see, i bought some merch to make up for it.
last day of school today, and all my classes i am dreading. lots of doing very little over holidays will be muchly anticipated.
bring on the duel tonight. i think maybe just the church bar, and not the youthie show. so many interstate bands on the one bill. should be fucking awesome.

so i finally found out what their actual name is morti-viventi. well most of probably knew that, and for those who missed them, i pity the fool. moments were also quite delightful indeed.
the gig on friday was ok. really good turnout. hands up to know exit and nid. werd up to party up afterwards at 'the house' as i shall now refer to it. its weird how one night you drink very little and get a pounding headache in the morning, and the next night a considerable amount more and feel fine. well it confuses me anyway.
work on sunday was boring. work is boring. the need for something else is becoming more clear, especially, as i reallised last thursday when i clocked in two years. not such a bad effort, but at lenards chicken? i ask you, are there many jobs less desirable?
i was going to attend the strike anywhere/sommerset show in sydney on friday night, but i got to jolimont with the bus right in front of me and freaked out and bailed. i still dont know why, and i get the feeling its going to be hard to get into their show on wednesday at the anu. ive got in twice before, but i get a bad feeling about wed.
borrowed saetia off ross. finally i have gotten around to hearing them. you can really see the hot cross in them. its like hc, but a bit less produced? good, but its gonna take time to fully apreciate. not quite as instantly lovable as hot cross. and fucking comeback kid. why oh why, did that never happen. i really regret not seeing them. well shit happens. such a good cd.
the hardcore matinee on friday. its gonna fucking awesome. so many bands on one bill, in canberra i add. not a bad effort. ivbe heard the hard luck demo, and its ok so it will be interesting to see how they relate live.
off to ast trials now. fucking waste of time. then off to work. then to home. then to finish off 3 essays.
at least i have strike anywhere to look forward to?

and fuckin henry rollins! yeh werd.
long weekend are too long. i had the op to go to melbourne and turned it down. silly me.
strike anywhere show in sydney this friday. anyone want to accompany me on my travels?
the housewarming party for linda laine and kathy this saturday. no idea for costume. maybe ill do the lame-core-lame-to-the-max thing and come as myself. hmmm, maybe not.

2:34 am - the greatest fuckin punk rock band of the last decade
|
|
my GREEN DAY adventure: starts at 9am (shudders) with an orthodontist app't in civic. dave will soon have braces (again shudders) 1pm: bus to sydney. bumped into bee. odd. 4:15pm: arrive sydney. suss out accom. railway sq. $30.50. bargain. walked around george st and haymarket for a bit. wasted much time. 6pm: leave central for fucking GREEN DAY 7:30pm: finally arrive at olympic park amongst the swarming masses of juvinile teens. now. there are things that piss dave off. the fact that the superdome (and i whole heartidly now realise why the SUPER bit has been added. FUCK, this place is huge) had its own little d-barrier thingo, and that only the early early ealry people got to go into it. they got yellow wrists bands. us behind the d has purple. after repeatedly attempting to infiltrate the barrier, it finally occured to me to turn inside out my wrist band as white looks quite similar to yellow in the dark. worked straight away. BOO YAH! so, SIMPLE PLAN SHIT ME WITH A PASSION. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN THE BEST FUCKING NIGHT OF MY LIFE? WHY??? but they did play a cover of the darkness 'i believe in a thing called love' haha, weird but definately the highlight of their set. except for the bit when they left the stage. only to be expected however. actually the highlight of their set was definately when i saw mike dirnt watching from side stage. so then for the penultimate moment in DAVE's concert going career GREEN DAY! fuck yeah! they started off a bit worrying however, playing 4 songs in a row off American Idiot, and i was starting to get the feeling the night was going the same way, but then they broke out into old-skool GREEN DAY and playing from Kerplunk! to Nimrod, and all between. they ended up only playing 8 songs from American Idiot in a 2 hour set. fuck yeah! they even fucking played Op Ivy "knowledge" where they did they bizzo where they get crowd members to get up on stage and play the song. yeh rad! So the night was fucking awesome, and sympathy to those who missed it. fuck, they even played KING FOR A DAY. but no CHRISTIE ROAD, not surprising however, but was still hopefull. and billie joe dedicated WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS to johnny ramone. and it was just so surreal to see them, in person, billie joe- his tight black shirt and black cons, his 27 tattoo, the guitar, mike dirnt - his skill, his ear bar piercing. and tre cool. need i say more. for now we shall know him as TRES COOL. for that he is. im sure there was many many more noteworthy details, but that shall be all for now. and,,,,,, dave got the TRE COOL DRUMSTICK, well half of it anyway. it was the only way as me and this other guy werent going to let it go, so we had to snap it. also the story with the TRAVIS BARKER DRUMSTICK. it was a half. haha
